Within these shots John Schabel captures the vulnerability of his ‘victims’. I refer to them as victims due to the way he takes hostage of a moment in time which nobody is aware of except the photographer himself. The images then become quite personal, whether or not he has any significance with these people in the outside world, as it is something which only he can be aware of and understand what was really going on at that moment in time. For me, the use of film photography definitely adds to the personal effect. The whole process of developing film yourself and becoming quite intimate with the work allows you become apart of it. Again it is personal, this moment in time belongs to John Schabel and he is offering to share.
