Hannah Starkey

For me, Hannah Starkey’s work is always full of detachment. The reconstructed scenes are a capture of daily life containing the unnoticed emotions of people. The awkwardness of her models aren’t the only thing that make her images, her settings and use of lighting are also key factors,as without these the atmosphere isn’t set. These two images alone are a perfect example of this, the windows are a massive focus point allowing the viewer to understand the mood and feelings of the image before even looking at the expressions or body language of the model.
These images are a few years old and I couldn’t find any newer images from the photographer. However, the skill and thought process put in from Hannah Starkey are clean cut and a perfect example of things that I always consider and is what is important to me in an image.
